History of Skorpio Cruises
Cruceros Marítimos Skorpios initiated its cruises to the San Rafael Glacier in 1976 with a small cargo ship named M/N Mimi, transporting at that time only 12 passengers per voyage, later the M/N Skorpios I arrived in 1978, the first tourism vessel for the enterprise & for Chile, this vessel is still in service in the canals of southern Chile. To date this vessel has carried out more that 600 cruises to the San Rafael Lagoon, transforming it into symbol of tourism in Chile.
In 1978, the M/N Skorpios II was inaugurated with an investment of USD$10,000,000.-, with capacity for 160 passengers. It is the vessel with the largest capacity in the Skorpios fleet. In 1995, the company inaugurated a new vessel, the M/N SkorpiosIII, with an investment of USD$15,000,000.-, a complete Sailing /Hotel, that creates a concept of excellence and service.
Today the M/N Skorpios III, with a capacity of 125 passengers, with its beds low, operates under the slogan “Our Super Class”, all of its services are the pride of our enterprise.
In 2003 the Skorpios enterprise extended it operations to the Magallanes Region, inaugurating a new Tourist Route, the KAWESKAR EXPLORERS, to the Glaciers of the Southern Ice Fields, sailing from Puerto Natales to Puerto Edén. For this reason the M/N Skorpios III was transferred so as to be able to operate on this route, as well a Maritime Terminal was constructed in Puerto Natales.
Currently our company is the leader in Cruise Vessel Tourism in Chile. It is with pride that we can say that we have transported more that 19,000 passengers through the canals of the Chilean Patagonia.
