RAFTING Nahuel Huapi in Bariloche – MANSO TO THE FRONTIER
In the heart of Nahuel Huapi National Park, adventure and beauty are presented
in different manners. A very attractive option is a raft through Manso river to
the Chilean frontier, where you will be awed by perennial forests and imposing
snowed peaks.
To do this outing you must travel 70 km. south from Bariloche through national
route 258, leaving behind lakes Gutierrez, Mascardi and Guillelmo.
When you get to Villegas river you must turn to the west through a debris road
and drive 30 km. to La Pasarela camping site by the river Manso, a wonderful
white water formed by mountain ice melting. Here you get equipped, listen to
the safety talk given by the guides and then get into the river.
Adventure starts on the raft, always scorted by the safety kayak on the prow.
At the beginning you will ride on rapids class II and by then you will have
full adrenaline.
When you feel the river Manso roaring in the canyon, you will feel like getting
lost in the immensity of mother nature and observe the perfection of Patagonian
Cypresses and all that abundant vegetation, notice a golden-breasted
woodpecker, a huet-huet or maybe a chucao tapaculo.
The Velvet Canyon is the last peaceful place: as soon as you cross it,
action starts. In this sector the river Manso becomes rough, since rafting
combines rapids class II with violent white waters class IV.
"Row!" implores the guide, and the crew rows unceasingly as we fall into a pool
before the river gets into Chile.
The trip ends in Argentinian-Chilean territory, in the field of the Bahamonde
family, a beautiful place with wide corrals, grain sheds and centenary houses
made of larch tiles standing as straight as the day when they were built. The final picture is magic: the Andes with their snow covered peaks, the
intense green of the forests, the roaring of the river Manso, which seems to
say goodbye, and the satisfaction of having come to the end of the journey full
of joy and enchanted by nature.
The Manso is an ideal river for all those who wish to have fun in one of the
most beautiful valleys of Nahuel Huapi National Park in Bariloche, Argentina.
